The District Miami

1 Dec

Being a blogger, particularly a food blogger, has certain key characteristics.

  1. You have got to have a loooove for all things food.
  2. Your friends and family learn that all of your meals begin with photos; hopefully you’ve mastered the art so the food doesn’t get cold. This is how it has to work because no one wants to see a picture of an empty plate after a fabulous meal. What’s the point of that? I must say it has been funny to see the progression of this phenomenon as I now have close friends and even my father sending me snaps of what they’re chowing down on.

Texts with Dad{Case and point.}

 This past week, I went home to Miami for Thanksgiving with the family. While I knew I would venture to some of my favorites in town, such as Jaguar, I wanted to try something new. Thanks to a twitter chat with John at @SocialMedia305 (got to love what the internet can do for you these days; the connection economy as Seth Godin calls it.) I was given the recommendation to try The District. The District is home to Pan-American cuisine. It brings together the best of North, South, Central America and the Caribbean.

It is always interesting to head out to Design District, as every time you’re there, something new has popped up or expanded in this up and coming area. Upon arriving at The District, I fell I love with the open environment. Everything was very inviting.

The DistrictMy dad and I decided to sit outside; Miami was graced with the best weather while I was home. Wind in my hair, no care, I was able to enjoy a beautiful lunch with my Dad. This is quite special as it doesn’t happen often.

I took a trip to the ladies room before sitting down at the table. It’s funny but sometimes you can love a restaurant that much more for their presentation in the bathroom. Sounds odd, but hey, c’est la vie. Another fave is the bathroom as The Beat Hotel. It is so eclectic! What I loved about The District was their choice of lotions and creams. The Pecksniff’s England Rose & Peony lotion was just fantastic!

The District Miami BathroomWe began lunch with pao de queijo. It was interesting to see this as the bread of choice. It definitely made sense given the Pan-American cuisine.

What I liked most about it was the sauce. The saltiness of the fish mixed with this sweet hint of watermelon truly made the dish.Cobia Ceviche at the District Miami For our main dish, my dad had a salad and I had steak. Of course, I had the meat. My dad keeping his stylish figure, went with salad. When I asked which salad he was eating he said, “The green one.” Well of course, Dad, I thought. He always tries to throw in puns and sarcastic comments. This time, however, that was actually the name of the dish.

Shrimp at the District MiamiThe salad was quite tasty; it was different in that many things were presented in shredded form instead of diced or chopped. The sherry vinaigrette really made the dish.

I had the Guacho, a 10 oz steak. I did not eat it all but boy was it good. I liked that the chimichurri (a parsley based Latin sauce for grilled meat) included sun dried tomatoes. Also, the hand cut custom made potatoes were SO tasty. My dad and I warfed them.

Gaucho at the District MiamiI am happy I didn’t eat the whole dish as dessert was to die for. The 4-Leches Parfait comprised of Macadamia nuts, vanilla caramelized pineapples, and Italian merengue.

This would definitely be the cutest first date spot or good for a holiday reunion. Thank you The District for having me in; I will certainly be back my next time in Miami!!!
