Five Guys

27 Sep

…and it has finally made its way to Boston. Walking back to the metro after work one day, I spotted this new store front at 58 Summer St. I am excited to have a 5 Guys in Boston; I don’t know how happy my metabolism will be. This is definitely dangerous considering my office is a close walk from where I work!

Budget Bytes

25 Sep

Budget Bytes… what a cute name right? Well, this name is that of a blog that I have grown very fond of. Having just moved to Boston and into my own place, I am truly and finally “on my own”. This means money is something I definitely pay more attention, but I never want to sacrifice food quality for price constraints. Thus, I have found this blog as an amazing resource. There are step by step photos that are really helpful for a visual person like me!

Now that I am finally settled in my own place and feel amazing , I can finally dedicate more time back to cooking. Perusing through the array of food that is on Budget Bytes, I have made a bucket list for the week to try:

Breakfast: Blueberry Banana Baked Oatmeal

Lunch: Curry Chicken Salad

Dinner:Chicken Adobo

Mul’s Diner

24 Sep

20120924-124703.jpgRecently, I have been venturing to different breakfast spots on the weekends. The purpose of the dining experience is to get a great, hearty meal that doesn’t ding your wallet. Recently, I was brought to Mul’s dinner. This spot is a hidden gem in South Boston.

Upon walking in, you are transported back to the 50’s. Mul’s is a classic old-school diner, with a black and white tiled floor, red walls and booths, and a few stools for those who want to grab a quick coffee or something to eat.

There are some fabulous, low cost specials on the menu. My favorite that I saw was the Working Man’s Breakfast special (3 Eggs, Home Fries, Choice of Sausage or Bacon, Toast, and Coffee for $3.95); it can’t be beat. You just need to get there by 9am to order it.

I have recently been in the mood for pancakes for breakfast, a deviation from my go-to of French Toast. I ordered the Banana Pecan pancakes. This three pancake dish included fresh bananas in their house buttermilk batter topped with toasted pecans, caramel sauce and whipped cream. So delish!

Mul’s Diner is by far one of Boston’s hidden breakfast treasures. There isn’t much not to like about Mul’s between the great atmosphere, awesome food, and stellar prices. A fan of diners? Definitely check out Mul’s, and you might soon understand why this has become such a favorite spot!

SO EXCITED

Orinoco

Having had parents from South America and growing up in Miami, I am obsessed with all types of Latin food. Last night, I ventured out to Harvard Square to test out a Venezuelan spot, Orinoco*. As a heads up, I would not go on an empty stomach, because this spot is definitely on Latin time. Nevertheless, the food was INCREDIBLE. If you have never tried Venezuelan food, this place is a must. There were so many things I wanted to have, but my stomach could only handle so much.

To start, we ordered a trio of Empanadas: cazon (fish), domino (black bean & cheese) , and mechada (beef) with signature mojo. The mojo dipping sauce that was to die for; I could have taken a whole bottle back home with me. For entrees, both of us got the Pabellón Criollo: Venezuela’s most folkloric dish: shredded beef, white rice, black beans and plantains. I definitely asked for an extra side of that mojo as an accompaniment to my food. SERIOUSLY SO GOOD!  All of this was paired with an Argentinian Malbec. With the combination of all of these factors, and amazing company, I definitely could not go wrong with my dining choice.

Orinoco is one of the longest rivers in South America and over 75% of it is based in Venezuela.
