5 Things Friday

30 Nov

I want to get in the groove of posting consistently. One thing that will motivate me is having a post that is planned for a day. I’m always coming across new things that I like, so why not a 5 things Friday?

Here goes…

1. Music: You know when you hear a song and you’re like this badboy could be a huge hit? Well, I got one of those for you. I recently heard this song by Zedd by perusing through a Spotify playlist. I like to get me going, whether it be for a workout, prepping for a presentation, or even walking down the streets of Boston.

2. Workout: Zumba. My new favorite class at the gym is hands down Zumba. On Tuesday, Amy over at the Fenway Boston Sports Club sure knows how to get your body shaking.

3.Quote: I’d like to say that I’m doing my best to embody the below quote.

4.Smoothie (to Try): I have always had an inclination for smoothies. Having perused through Women’s Health Magazine, I was interested in trying the below smoothie:

The Hunger Killer
“This hearty blend is stocked with filling fiber from fruit and protein from tofu. “Fiber helps you feel full without contributing tons of calories, and protein is the most satiating nutrient,” says WH advisor Lisa Drayer, R. D., author of The Beauty Diet. Get added ammunition from the omega-3 fatty acids in flax seed oil. ‘Omega-3’s help increase your metabolic rate and burn fat,” Avanti says. “They’ve also been found to reduce the number of fat cells, especially in the belly.'”
What You’ll Need1 c strawberries, hulled
1 c cubed mango
1 lime, peeled and seeded
2 Tbsp flax seed oil
1/2 c silken tofu (1/4 of a package)
1 1/2 c ice

Divergent, the Movie!!!!

29 Nov

From the moment I read Divergent, I knew I wanted to see it as a movie. Recently, talks of this have come to fruition and we should be seeing a film come out for 2014. I am so envious of the creative nature and thought process that Veronica Roth has! If you haven’t read the book, I highly recommend it! You’ll read it in a day, I promise.

Exciting news are in order for those who have read the book. Officially, the Divergent movie adaptation has a director: Neil Burger. He directed The Illusionist and Limitless. The scenes and intracy of The Illusionist make me excited to see what he has up his sleeve for this spectacle. Further, Shailene Woodley is going to play Tris! To be honest, from the moment I heard that she was being considered, I was not that excited.

Having read Roth’s blog, she stated, “Shailene has proven how talented she is, as anyone who has seen The Descendants can attest. And physically, what’s most important to me, far and away more important than other aspects of her appearance, is that Tris does not look like an action hero– she looks like a slight person with youthful, delicate features, someone who shocks you with how strong and capable she becomes. To me, that is exactly the look Shailene has, exactly the look I’ve always had in my mind.” Having read that now, I can sort of picture how Shailene could fit the part. Only time will tell when I can actually see the movie!

Any thoughts on the Divergent film?

Apple Pie

28 Nov

I have never been a huge fan of pies, but I think my reasoning stemmed from the fact that not many times did we have homemade pies for holidays; people would bring pies in from the market. So, this Thanksgiving Day had me excited for many things, particularly pies of all varieties. Who doesn’t like a first? My first apple pie! I began my morning by peeling apples with my dad and enjoyed living in the moment with family and baking. Sometimes the simplest activities are the ones you enjoy the most. Granted, my dad sliced the apples (I would not have had the patience to slice the apples thinly). After this year’s experience, I can attest that there is no comparison.

The Recipe

Crust
1 box Pillsbury® refrigerated pie crusts, softened as directed on box
Filling
1 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples (6 medium)
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice

    Directions
  • 1 Heat oven to 425°F. Place 1 pie crust in ungreased 9-inch glass pie plate. Press firmly against side and bottom.
  • 2 In large bowl, gently mix filling ingredients; spoon into crust-lined pie plate. Top with second crust. Wrap excess top crust under bottom crust edge, pressing edges together to seal; flute. Cut slits or shapes in several places in top crust.
  • 3 Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until apples are tender and crust is golden brown. Cover edge of crust with 2- to 3-inch wide strips of foil after first 15 to 20 minutes of baking to prevent excessive browning. Cool on cooling rack at least 2 hours before serving.

Baby, I’m Back

27 Nov

It’s funny how sometimes you can get inspiration from the most random of places.  It’s been a month since my last post….and well…I’m quite embarassed. Sure, I moved to a different city and am adjusting to the new lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean I can’t sit down and power out my thoughts, views, or likes of the day. Recently, while listening to a playlist on Spotify, the song “Baby, I’m Back” came on. Within the first few verses, you’re introduce to the lyrics, “Baby im back (yeah), I’m here to cater to you (anything you want me to, I’ll do it).” I took this as a sign to get back on the band wagon. More so, I want to take this lyric as an opportunity to create a mantra to hear what you, as a reader, would like to see in the upcoming posts I create. In browsing through some sites such as Your Super Awesome Life and Yes & Yes, I have come across new ideas that I loved and want to incorporate into my writing:

  • Intentions for the Month
  • Posts that focus on things such as “Sometimes I need to…”
  • Current Items & Objects I’m loving

I look forward to holding to this as well as hearing if there are anythings you’d like to see on the blog!
