2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony

I wish I could say it was one of my favorite times of year, but the Summer Olympics only happens once every four years. If only it could occur yearly, what an amazing thing that would be! Tomorrow marks the night of the opening ceremony for the Olympics in London.

I wonder what the Opening Ceremony will entail? Having read Time Magazine’s article Q&A: Suttirat Larlab, Olympic Opening Ceremony Costume Designer, I found out the costume designer Suttirat Larlab collaborated with Slumdog Millionare’s director Danny Boyle. The excitement inside of me increased tenfold from hearing these news; I am sure it was known beforehand, but this was the first time I heard this! It was interesting to note their comparison to the Beijing ceremony. This time around, this dynamic duo wanted to ensure that the spectacle captivated both live and television audience. Some people who were in the actual ceremony noted that they did not feel as much connection to the response from those watching it on the TV. For the London ceremony,  Larlab and Boyle want to leave everyone with “something more than just a visual spectacular to go home and talk about.” It will be interesting to see people’s reactions both visually and through social media.

Some more questions to think about: Who will we spot in the crowd? Will there be a surprise in the performance? One cannot forget that Paul McCartney will perform; His performance at the Queen’s Jubilee was out of this world, I wonder how he will perform with billions of spectators worldwide. (It is amazing to think of this feat through the amazing nature of technology.)

I, too, am Olympics obsessed. I felt so bad for Jordan when she didn’t qualify for the gymnastics all-around:(
