Foodie Penpals

2 Jul

Last month, I had the pleasure of taking part in a really cool initiative for the food and blogging world. Lindsay over at Lean Green Bean blog started Foodie Penpals in September 2011. It was born from a random idea turned out amazing. It went from about 30 particiapants the first month to almost 1,000 blogger & reader participants in the US, Canada and most recently, the UK!

As a foodie, this penpal setup could not have been more up my alley! The best part was you got paired with some one but received from somebody else. Therefore, you were able to interact with more than one person and get to know them a little. My pen pal, who sent to me, is Erin Kirk aka Rinnie from the blog Rinnie Eats. We sent a few emails back and forth for her to get an understanding of what I liked and boy did she get me some fantastic things!

{My box arrived!! There is nothing like receiving mail, especially when it’s your foodie penpal!}

Sooo… let me break down my package for you. I was not initially sure how the whole pen pal thing was going to work, but Rinnie sure did a great job! (The thought that went into it was incredible and card along with it was just so precious!) I like to think I put a lot of effort into the one I sent and I can for sure state that she did the same! I had mentioned that I do not eat chocolate (strange, I know) and that my passion lay in the brewing of a good cup of coffee.

The coffee she packaged was from Maple City Roasters. La Porte, IN is called Maple City because of all the Maple Trees. She gave me three different brews: Pumpkin Pecan Spice, Maple City Blend and Blueberry Cinnamon Crumble. The flavors were really unique and I could not have been happier with her choices. My favorite was the Blueberry Cinnamon Crumble!

Rinnie also sent me some caramels from a shop called “Little Chocolates”. She gave me a background story to the shop which was just so cute: The store is owned by a couple named Mr. + Mrs. Little! How precious? I truly enjoyed my caramels with a cup of jo from Maple City Roasters.

Next in the box was the famous “Chicago Mix” popcorn from Garrett’s. It is a combination of cheese and caramel. I cannot tell you how addictive this popcorn is! I had to go for a run after scarfing down a few handfuls in one sitting!

Finally, Rinnie made her own homemade jam with all local ingredients. I must say this was my favorite part. The flavors that came out of that spread onto my bagel were just unreal. I would gladly order some in the future, it was THAT good!

I have a very busy month of July so I did not sign up for this month’s round of pen pals, but I will definitely do it again! I highly recommend it! It is such a unique and amazing experience!
